If you are totally unable to pay your taxes, even with a payment extension, you can send an application for equitable relief (remise gracieuse) from your direct taxes (such as income tax and local taxes) to the tax office whose contact details appear on your tax notice. This type of relief is granted very occasionally and, usually, only once.
